Haryana’s agitating jats said their would reconsider plans to blockade the opening of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi on October 3 if the state government formally assures them of calling talks on their demand for jat quotas in government jobs and admissions. Haryana’s jats have for long been agitating for reservations under the OBC category like their brethren in Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh, and has threatened to block all movement into the National Capital on October 3 besides driving their buffalos and cows into the city.
The protesters said they had purchased hundreds of tickets to the opening of the Commonwealth Games to gain entry to the Nehru Stadium.
But responding to appeals from Haryana’s sports persons and others, the Akhil Bharatiya Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti chief Mr Yashpal Malik and state president Hawa Singh said, “Jats will defer the agitation plans of chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda promises to hold talks on our demands.”

AI announces two schemes for Games

Sept. 26: State-owned carrier Air India on Sunday announced two Commonwealth Games promotional schemes for passengers travelling from Delhi on the airline. In the first scheme, passengers travelling seven times on any domestic or international network of Air India from October 1 to November 14 will be eligible for a return economy class ticket (two coupons) to any destination that Air India flies to on its domestic network.
The second scheme entitles a passenger to present 12 economy class boarding cards (of the period between October 1 to November 14) wherein the boarding cards can belong to different passengers.
