An unpublished poem by Sir Walter Scott, one of Scotland’s greatest writers, has been discovered and will be read in public for the first time.
The poem, called The Hills of Killearn, is part of a hidden collection of documents kept at Cambusmore House near Callander.
Sir Walter spent many vacations at the house as a young lawyer and nine letters in the collection, written over a number of years, will be going on display in Callander.
For more than 200 years, Baillie-Hamilton family of Cambusmore House was the custodian of the poem.
“The discovery is very exciting. We are very lucky that the Baillie-Hamilton family has given us access to these wonderful examples of Scott’s writing. The letters show what a strong influence the Trossachs had on Scott and how they inspired him to produce some of his most popular work,” the BBC news quoted Elspeth McLachlan, ScottsLand.co.uk director, as saying.

Perry crowned America’s girl of summer 2010
London: Singer Katy Perry has been crowned the queen of summer 2010 after storming the Billboard pop charts with her California Girls.
The pop star’s collaboration with rapper Snoop Dogg performed better than any other tune on the new Billboard songs of the summer survey, which tallies the hits from memorial day in June to labour day, reports contactmusic.com.
It’s the second time Perry has topped the summer countdown. Her I Kissed a Girl was the hit song in 2008. Eminem’s Love the Way You Lie duet with Rihanna comes in second on the new summer list and B.o.B’s Airplanes places third. —IANS

Jolie: Brad, kids are my only friends
London: Angelina Jolie has confessed that she does not have many close friends with whom she can talk.
The mum-of-six appeared on US TV speaking from flood-devastated Pakistan in her role as a UN goodwill ambassador. The Salt star told CNN that she doesn’t have many friends and rarely talks to anyone about the pressures of her work, other than her partner Brad Pitt and her children.
“I’ll talk to my family. I talk to Brad; he wants to know as much as he can about these issues and every trip,” the Daily Mail quoted her as saying. “But I don’t know, I don’t have a lot of friends to talk to. He is really the only person I talk to,” she added. —ANI
