Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took a swipe at the Centre over the “mess” in Commonwealth Games preparations, saying that even if Prime Minister Manmohan Singh mops the floor the sports facilities will not be ready in time.
Mr Modi also taunted the CWG bosses telling them that any government body in Ahmedabad even would have ensured that all the stadia were ready before the commencement of the mega sporting event on October 3.
Congress was cool in its response to Mr Modi’s jibes and taunts saying “you can’t expect anything better from him” while BJP defended the chief minister suggesting he was stating the obvious.
“I don’t know what is happening in the Commonwealth Games. Even if the PM (Manmohan Singh) starts wiping the floor, the venues won’t be ready for the game,” Mr Modi said at a function here.
“CWG people had four years to get the venues ready, but they are still struggling. They should have given it to Ahmedabad (Municipal Corporation), which would have built those stadiums in time,” Mr Modi said.
Mr Modi also challenged the Union government calling it a “Delhi sultanate” and asked it to compete with the Gujarat government on development front.

Concerns were expressed in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday over the reported presence of Chinese troops in Gilgit-Baltistan region in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Raising the matter during Zero Hour, BJP member Ramdas Agarwal asked the government on what steps it had taken to ensure safety and security of the nation in view of such reports.
Referring to reports in a section of the media, about the influx of an estimated 7,000 to 11,000 soldiers of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army in strategic Gilgit-Baltistan region, he asked the government what it was doing to avert another 1962 like situation.
“I want to ask the government how intelligence agencies failed to know about this development? Has the system collapsed that it was not aware of Chinese soldiers having reached PoK,” he asked.
