A married woman in Mathura district, who had gone missing 16-years-ago, has returned home with three children in tow.
Her husband Laxmikant, father-in-law Ramesh Chandra Chaturvedi, mother-in-law Saraswati and brother-in-law Chandrakant had to spend several years in jail when the woman, Vanadana’s father accused them of abducting his daughter and then killing her.
Vandana was married to Laxmikant in 1993. A year after her marriage, she mysteriously disappeared from her house and could not be traced. Vandana’s father lodged a case of dowry killing against her husband and three others in his family. All four were arrested and sent to jail and it took them several years to come out on bail.
On Thursday, Vandana suddenly arrived at her grandmother’s house in Gajapaisa locality in Mathura. She brought along her three children Simran, 13, Dinesh, 12, and Guddi, 10.
The family members were obviously shocked to see Vandana, whom they had presumed to be dead, standing at their doorstep. Neighbours, friends and relatives collected at the house to see the woman.
The police was informed and Vandana and her three children were taken to the police station.
Vandana, in her statement, said that she could not recall why and how she had left her home 16-years-ago. She said that she remembered going to Delhi where she met one Karan Malhotra who befriended her. The two got married some months later. In 2009, Karan Malhotra left Vandana, who now works in a private hospital and fends for her three children.
She further said that she had contacted her father who works in Haridwar 2009 but he never told her that her former husband and in-laws were jailed after she left the house.
Vandana was later produced in court by the police where she narrated the entire sequence of events.
A senior police official said that legal proceedings would not begin to quash the case against her former in-laws.
