The ruling Congress on Wednesday welcomed the government’s move to constitute the Seventh Pay Commission and recalled how the BJP-led NDA dispensation had “rejected” the legitimate formation of the Sixth Pay Commission in 2003. AICC general secretary and in-charge of the party’s communication department Ajay Maken hailed the government’s move in one of his Twitter posts saying: “7th Pay Commission of govt employees announced. Except for 6th Pay Commission all Pay Commissions are set up in 3rd year of a decade... The government should attract best of talents as its employees. Pay Commissions help in attracting and also retaining best available talents.”
Mr Maken’s Twitter post came soon after the government announced constitution of the commission, which will go into the salaries, allowances and pensions of about 80 lakh.

Govt wants record of all J&K funds

The government is now clear that all agencies should maintain an account of all expenses incurred in the Kashmir Valley, even the payoffs to local politicians, NGOs, members of the civil society to whom money is often routed from source or secret fund. Often, intelligence agencies don’t maintain a regular account of source or secret fund which has a sizeable allocation. Thus, sources admitted, there was a lot of room for “manoeuvring” with theses funds. However, with a view to avoid any future embarrassment, the government has issued clear directives to intelligence and security outfits to keep a record of funds.
Also important is that often agencies transfer funds to each other to be used in the Valley. Sources revealed during Gen. V.K. Singh’s tenure as Army Chief, an external intelligence agency had transferred considerable amount to the military intelligence for using in the Valley.
