The outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (I.K. Songbijit Faction), which abducted general manager of NHPC Anil Kumar Agarwal, has demanded `20 crores ransom from a close associate of the officer in the NHPC to release him.
Disclosing that Tamang, the driver of Mr Agarwal was instrumental in helping the NDFB rebels in kidnapping of the general manager on Saturday, authoritative security sources told this newspaper that the driver was involved in kidnapping as he was to get 20 per cent share in the total ransom amount extorted in the kidnapping of the GM. Informing that driver Tamang a youth of Nepali origin was also informing the NDFB rebels about his movement from Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh to Guwahati on Saturday, security sources said that security forces have traced the location of abducted general manager but was reluctant to strike. Fearing that operation by the security forces may cause harm to safety and security of Mr Agarwal, security sources said that NDFB was targeting NHPC for extortion.
