The Bandra police, which is investigating one of the most heinous murders of all time in Mumbai, believe that the mutilated middle portion of the woman’s body that was found stuffed inside a bag at Mahim creek near the Bandra-Worli Sealink, was dumped on the rocks by the murderer.
An official from the Bandra police debunked the theory of the murderer throwing the body into the sea which then landed at the Mahim Creek’s coast, stating, “There would have been some physical changes on the body had it been in the water for several hours. But, that doesn’t seem to be the case.”
On Sunday night, a ragpicker alerted the police about the body, which was concealed inside a
cement bag and thrown on the northern end of the creek. The police confirmed that the victim was not a minor.
Apart from the mid portion of the body, a chocolate bed sheet, a blue-coloured dress and a black top was found from the bag. The body has been sent for an autopsy to JJ Hospital and then will be sent to the Forensic Lab for DNA analysis.
The police officials are said to have gone through around 100 odd missing complaints of women from Mumbai and nearby districts like Thane, Thane (rural), Navi Mumbai and so on, but have not found a match with the clothes of the victim yet. However, the Bandra police is in constant touch with officials of the missing persons’ bureau, who are helping them identify the woman.
“The victim is aged between 20 and 30. We also suspect that the murder had taken place somewhere in Mumbai, as the murderer will not take the risk of traveling with the body for a long time due to the fear of getting caught,” the official added.
Meanwhile, a senior doctor said, “The body is decomposed. Whether it was in water or not is difficult to say. She was not pregnant. There are stretch marks on the body, but it is not possible to ascertain that she went through an abortion. We have taken her swabs for further probe.”
