While reviewing the enrolment under Aadhar, direct benefit transfer (DBT) and implementation of food security schemes, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan directed collectors and regional revenue commissioners across the state to speed up the Aadhar enrolments and push the schemes to enable them to reach their beneficiaries. He undertook the review through video conferencing (VC) at Sahyadri guesthouse on Friday.
The state government is trying to implement the UPA government’s ambitious food security scheme in the state from December. A senior official from the CM’s office, who was present at the time of the VC, said that the CM initially spoke to commissioners and then to collectors of districts such as Sindhudurg and Parbhani, where Aadhar enrolment is poor.
According to sources, while speaking with the Parbhani collector the CM expressed his disappointment at the low enrolment under Aadhar and directed that the collector speed up the government machinery to achieve the target of 90 percent enrollment before the year-end. Parbhani has achieved only 29 percent so far.
After the CM, women and child minister Varsha Gaikwad spoke to collectors on the “Manodhairya” and “Sukanya” schemes. Food and civil supplies minister Anil Deshmukh also talked about food security schemes and replied to queries by collectors.
While talking to The Asian Age, Mr Deshmukh said, “To ensure successful implementation of the food security scheme, we have demanded that the chief minister transfer staff of revenue department to food and civil supplies. We have 350 officers of our own out of 8,500 officers across the state,” he said, adding, “We have no right to suspend or transfer the remaining staff.”
