It was a holiday to Ibiza that made Joelle Atkins realise her passion for music. And playing with musical instruments for fun triggered off the passion for deejaying. And eight years after her debut gig, the UK-based DJ has carved a niche for herself when it comes to playing house music.
On her maiden visit to India, she says, “House music is basically playing electronic dance music and my playlist has all the worldwide popular track numbers.”
She grew up in a musically inclined family and says, “With my brother being a sound engineer it was sort of natural for me to study music production and deejaying came along.”
Joelle took up a course in music production and used to practice mixing as well till she set her mind on making a career out of it. “I always wondered about the dearth of women in deejaying. We have everything that is needed to succeed so I really can’t figure out why we are so less in number,” says Joelle, who was also the only female student in her batch.
She hopes with more empowerment women will balance the number soon.
