General Motors’ most-talked about electric offering the Chevrolet Volt, might not be available in India very soon, but its price tag of $41,000 has gotten auto experts around the globe talking, that the Volt might not be able to revolutionise the hybrid car market, as expected. But GM?seems to be unfazed by these comments and the pricing which is $8,200 higher than the Nissan Leaf, a battery electric car that will arrive in select markets at the end of the year, around the same time as the Volt.
“Honestly, they’re two different vehicles,” Dave Darovitz, a GM spokesman was quoted as saying by The New York Times. “One is range limited, and the other one offers 40 miles of gas-free driving and then a further 300 miles of travel,” he added.
But experts believe the extended range might not be able to attract buyers, mostly those who already have a primary car. “And if they are looking for a second car they would rather go for something like Honda Fit,” an auto expert said, adding, “They’ll also have to be people willing to pay BMW prices for a Chevy.”
