A version of Calvin and Hobbes, set 26 years into the future — when Calvin is married, and has a little daughter! Yes, Bill Watterson’s immortal comic strip of a little boy’s adventures with a stuffed tiger has inspired many fan fiction works — but this could arguably be one of the best.
Pants are Overrated begins with Calvin’s little daughter, Bacon, scared in bed, and her father gifting her Hobbes, referring to him as an ‘old friend of his, and the most ferocious guy he knows’. This is followed by Bacon and Hobbes having an endearing interaction after which they hit it off and proceed to have a series of (mis)adventures — all reminiscent of Watterson’s legacy.
There’s even an adorable passage about Calvin and his daughter letting their over-active imagination go wild, while his wife (yes, you guessed it right!) Susie indignantly watches on, in a exasperated manner.
The strip ends with Bacon enjoying a snowball fight with Hobbes out in the yard, while their parents watch nostalgically from inside the house. *sniff*
