Union minister and chairman of the Congress campaign committee for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday emerged as a down-to-earth leader when he said that he has not used a beacon light on his car even for a single day and said, “The first thing we (leaders) should give up are these red lights and sirens on our cars since they only distance us from the people.”
Mr Scindia was addressing mediapersons at an informal press meet organised by the Central Press Club in Bhopal.
He expressed serious concern over the slow pace of development and haphazard growth strategies that were being followed during the last 10 years of BJP rule in Madhya Pradesh.
Mr. Scindia said that Madhya Pradesh, which is also the heart of India, has immense potential for economic growth. He stressed the need to recognise the core competency of different regions of MP and said only by following this path it would be possible to fix priorities. He cited the example of Malwa region (western Madhya Pradesh) and said while there is scope for rapid industrialisation, there is also tremendous potential for developing this area as a processing centre and a logistic hub keeping agriculture in perspective. Once concrete steps are taken in this direction, the farmers’ income would increase tenfold, he added.
