The students’ union elections in Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University will be held on Friday. While Delhi University Students’ Union (Dusu) poll is a fight between National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Left organisations dominate the JNU elections.
The Dusu election is managed by Delhi University, but in JNU students themselves manage the elections. Around 9,000 students would cast votes in the JNUSU election while around 1.25 lakh DU students will select their representatives in Dusu.
Meanwhile, the chief election official of Dusu election has issued a showcause notice to eight candidates, belonging to NSUI and ABVP for violating the code of conduct.
“We found that these students distributed printed pamphlets, instead of handmade ones, during the campaign. If they are found guilty, the university will take action against them, even after they win the elections.” said Ashok Vohra, the chief election official. The police has been deployed to prevent any untoward incident during the election.
