Pegging power demand at about 5,000 MW during the Commonwealth Games in October this year, the Delhi Transco and power distribution companies (discoms) have asserted that full-proof arrangement has been put in place.
Meanwhile, chief minister Sheila Dikshit, who was in Pune to receive the Lokmanya Tilak award conferred upon her by the Tilak trust for her contribution to social development, stonewalled all queries by mediapersons in connection with the allegations of financial bungling in the Games projects in the city.
“I have nothing to say,” she said when reporters sought her comments on the issue.
Delhi power department officials added that though the ambitious 1,500-MW Bawana gas-based power project is getting delayed, a part of the plant would be operationalised before the Games. “A couple of the units of the Bawana power plant will be operational. Delhi will get about 750 MW from the to be partly operationalised Bawana project,” a senior official of the power department said.
The government is also hopeful of getting about 750 MW from the Jhajjar coal-based power plant in Haryana.
“Jhajhar plant will also be partly operationalosed soon, after which the city will get about 750 MW power. Adding to this, the Central government had recently announced that Delhi would get 410 MW from the Dadri power project,” stated the senior official.
The Delhi government has pegged the optimum power demand at about 5,000 MW and has asked the discoms to make arrangement in access of the estimated demand.
