The entire Opposition on Sunday attacked the Samajwadi government for its failure to check communal violence in Muzaffarnagar.
Leader of the Opposition and senior BSP MLA Swami Prasad Maurya demanded immediate dismissal of the state government and imposition of President’s Rule in UP. He said on Sunday that tension had been simmering in the region for the past 10 days but no efforts were made by the government to resolve the issues.
“It is clear that the Samajwadi Party wants to communalise the atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh and polarise voters on religious lines. The Samajwadis are hand-in-glove with the communal forces on this issue and must be exposed,” he said.
Rashtriya Lok Dal president and Union minister Choudhury Ajit Singh has also demanded that the Centre should immediately impose President’s Rule in Uttar Pradesh due to the complete failure of the administration in maintaining law and order and the inability to control the riots that have engulfed the western region of the state.
The Union minister said in a statement that there have been more than 100 cases of communal riots in Uttar Pradesh since the Samajwadi Party came to power last year.
Congress spokesman Dujendra Tripathi also blamed the state government for its failure to check violence.
“Since August 27 when the triple murder took place, the situation in Muzaffarnagar was going from bad to worse and sporadic incidents were taking place. No efforts were made to resolve the matter and the officials simply turned a blind eye’s to the situation at the ground level,” he said. BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said that inaction by the state government was a result of the Samajwadi Party’s policy of extreme appeasement of Muslims. “The government looked on helplessly while the situation took a turn for the worse in Muzaffarnagar. The government is answerable to the people on this issue,” he said.
