Stunned with the cross-voting in the byelections of Dhananjay Munde for MLC seat, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is now probing the matter to find out which MLAs were responsible for the Opposition candidate getting ten extra votes.
Dhananjay, who joined the NCP after revolting against his uncle and senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde, won the bypolls of legislative council seat on Monday. BJP had supported an independent candidate, Prithviraj Kakade, instead of fielding its own candidate. But Mr Kakade got 106 votes, shocking everyone as he was expected to get only 96 seats based on the party wise strength of Shiv Sena-BJP and other small parties supporting him.
Party spokesperson Nawab Malik on Thursday admitted that the party is investigating the matter to know who are those legislators involved in cross-voting against the party candidate.
“It is true that the Shiv Sena-BJP candidate got ten additional votes. We are yet to ascertain the MLAs behind the cross-voting. A probe is going on to find out the legislators responsible for this,” Mr Malik told reporters.
