Two Indian citizens, who were residing in Britain “illegally” and found working in a clothing factory in the east Midlands town of Leicester, have been arrested and face deportation.
Acting on intelligence, officers of the UK Border Agency discovered the two men when they visited the factory named Glamour Creation on Thursday.
A statement from the agency said one of the men attempted to escape from the premises through a rear door, but was stopped by officers stationed outside.
The two men — a 47-year-old and a 26-year-old — are both from India. Their names were not revealed.
Arrangements are now being made to deport them, official sources said. The Border Agency said that Glamour Creation now faced a potential fine of up to 20,000 pounds unless the company could prove that the correct employment checks were carried out.
The operation formed part of a nationwide summer campaign to tackle illegal working, sham marriages, bogus colleges and organised immigration crime. Immigration officer Shirley Dooley, from East Midlands Local Immigration Team, said: “This is the latest in a series of operations designed to find and remove those who have no right to live or work in the UK. We continue to work closely with the police and other agencies to target those who are here illegally.”
