A PIL filed in the Supreme Court has alleged that senior BJP leaders, including Amit Shah, Prakash Javadekar, Bhupender Yadav and Ram Lal, had been caught on camera conspiring to subvert judicial proceedings in the Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter case, in which Shah is a key accused.
The court is, however, yet to decide whether it has sufficient merit to be considered.
Pushp Sharma, a journalist, who filed the public interest litigation case, claims he is in possession of a video recording that shows the BJP leaders discussing how to save Shah, a former Gujarat minister and close aide of Narendra Modi, who is BJP in-charge for Uttar Pradesh. Shah was accused of sanctioning the fake police encounters in which Sohrabuddin Sheikh, his wife Kausar bi and Tulsiram Prajapati were killed. Shah was arrested in July 2010, but freed on bail three months later.
The PIL claims the secret video recordings show two BJP MPs — Prakash Javadekar and Bhupendir Yadav — discussing how to get a blank document signed by Prajapati’s mother. This “vakalatnama” could then be used to pick a lawyer to represent Tulsiram’s family, thus allowing them to control the direction of the investigation, the BJP leaders are allegedly heard discussing.
