Reaching out to the new government in Thimphu, India has announced an aid of `5,000 crore for Bhutan. This includes a special economic stimulus package of `500 crore for India’s neighbour.
The remaining `4,500 crore will be by way of India’s usual contribution to Bhutan’s Five Year Plans. At present, Bhutan is into its 11th Five Year Plan which began on July 1 2013.
The announcement came on Saturday following talks between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and visiting Bhutanese PM Tshering Tobgay. Mr Tobgay was elected PM of the Himalayan kingdom in July and he’s currently on his first visit to India.
New Delhi will be hoping to forge close ties with the new government leadership in Thimphu Bhutan after bilateral ties soured somewhat after India stopped the cooking gas and kerosene subsidies it gives to the land-locked kingdom after June 30.
The government later maintained that the subsidy was stopped owing to technical issues.

Mortal remains of NCO found 45 years after IAF plane crash
Chandigarh, Aug. 31: Over 45 years after the crash of an IAF AN-12 transport aircraft on a flight to Leh from here, the mortal remains of a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) — the fifth of the 102 on board — has been recovered.
An expedition of the Dogra Scouts of Western Command on August 22 recovered the mortal remains of NCO Hav. Jagmail Singh of the Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers after a period of 45 years and six months from the crash, a defence release said on Saturday.
The identity of the deceased was established by an identity disk, an insurance policy and a letter from his family, which was retrieved from his pocket, the release said.
The mortal remains of the NCO, are expected to be brought to Chandi Mandir Military Station later from where they will be taken to his native place in Meerpur village of Rewari district in Haryana for last rites with full military honours.
