An 80-year-old ailing woman was abandoned by her four sons as they are no longer interested to bear her responsibilities.
The four sons allegedly tied her with ropes and picked her up from the bed and dumped her at a deserted bus stand on Sunday morning. The woman identified as N
irmala Mandal is too feeble to move and has remained at the Aarbetai bus stand under the Barnia panchayat while some locals have provided her food.
However, neither her sons nor the Nakashipara police despite repeated alerts have expressed any interest to extend help to the woman till reports last came in.
When apprised of the fact by this correspondent, deputy superintendent of police Papiya Sultana assured to rescue the woman. Local sources said that the woman had gone missing for few days and had returned recently to home. However, her four sons Ananda, Dinabandhu, Paritosh and Govindo were reluctant to accept her. Local resident Moni Mandal said: “There were problems but we never imagined that the sons would abandon her.”
The ill-fated mother said, “My son Ananda brought me here and left me.” However, when contacted none of the four sons made any comment on the matter.
