This time, it is not the film Twilight which is making Robert Pattinson popular among the youth, but a new range of underwear designed by a popular brand. R-pant, engineered to be worn under skinny jeans and trousers, is inspired by the actor. And though Pattinson has turned down the opportunity to model the underwear, many youngsters are enthusiastic about it
Sashwati Sanyal, 26, says, “I missed seeing him sport a sexy pair of MnS. It would have been great if he endorsed this range. He would have looked bootylicious.”
Reetesh Singh, a 24-year-old media professional thinks that the innerwear is much like the thong for women. “It’s changing the trend. From the earlier visible waistbands, now it would be a snug non-noticeable fit which could be a boon for many men,” he says, but adds that he is unsure of the comfort level.
Even Kunal Joshi, a PR professional thinks that it is not a path-breaking idea. He terms the entire idea of naming the range after Pattinson as “silly”. “At least I would not switch to something else just because Pattinson wears or endorses it. Undergarments are more about comfort and he’s also not that big a star. In fact, the company should have launched something for girls after his name,” he says.
Strange, but even girls are not very interested. Pallabi Rajkonwar, says, “There are stronger names in the entertainment world. It can be popular, but a bigger star’s name would have pulled more customers.”
And a few youngsters trash the idea completely. Mukesh Sharma, a writer, quips, “I would never go in for it. I’m not star struck. And if at all I would have, I would rather flaunt it than hide it inside.”
Designer Preeti Chandra says that it is a relief as now one would no longer see underwear peeping out of a man’s low-waist jeans. “If Pattinson has inspired the range, I’m sure most of the boys in their teens and early 20s would go for it,” she adds.
