The CBI, which is probing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, is also looking into the ballistics report, besides the forensic report, of the weapon used to kill him.
The scrutiny of the forensic report may provide certain clues. The claim by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad that the police killed Sohrabuddin in defence after he fired at them has already been contradicted by the forensic report which established that Sohrabuddin had not fired at all, sources said.
“After examining the forensic report, investigating officials may question some tainted police officials again to know the truth. There are also reports that Sohrabuddin’s gun was used after the encounter also, which need to be examined. It needs to be ascertained as to who used his gun and what was the reason for the same,” sources said.
The ballistics reports related to the weapon used in Sohrabuddin’s killing will be compared with the report of weapons used in the 2004 killing of Ishrat Jahan. This assumes significance in the light of recent revelation that Ishrat Jahan was kept in the same farmhouse where Kauser Bi, Sohrabuddin’s wife, was confined before her killing, sources said. Though the CBI is not investigating the Ishrat Jahan case, it is likely to examine whether the weapons used in Sohrabuddin’s and Ishrat’s killings were the same.
