Sujit Kumar Ghosh wants to be a Chinese interpreter but he does not know how to speak it. “China is growing fast in business and technology globally. So it is essential for me to learn the language and culture of China,” the graduate from Birati said. Echoing him, Mrinmoy Majumdar, another graduate from Borojagulia in Nadia who
aspires to become a professor of the Chinese language, said: “We should know the language of China as the country is making tremendous progress in business and technology.”
To realise their dreams, Sujit and Mrinmoy along with 13 others have joined the first batch of Basic Applied Chinese Language course, a certificate course in Mandarin, which commenced at The School of Chinese Language on Wednesday.
The course, the first of its kind, is being offered jointly by the Calcutta University, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies and The School of Chinese Language. This nine-month-course will have 60 sessions to teach the students authentic phonetics and the Chinese culture through interactive sessions with the Chinese nationals and participation in The Chini Adda.
Ke Nian, a teacher from China, is conducting the bi-weekly course.
