Few resign, rest resigned to Telangana

Hyderabad: The decision to carve out a separate Telangana state on Tuesday had a fall out in the Seemandhra region with widespread agitations and several JACs giving bandh calls.
However, Seemandhra Congress leaders seemed to be in a compromising mood. Union and state ministers representing the regions, who had earlier threatened to take drastic steps in case of the state's division, maintained a stoic silence on Tuesday.
The stunning example of Seemandhra Congress leaders' “adjustability“ was evident when firebrand MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, who had earlier said that he would quit politics if a T state was announced, changed his stance and said that he would wait for the State Assembly's reaction in passing the resolution.
But there are few Congress leaders from Seemandhra region, like Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, who is currently in the US on a private visit, who faxed his resignation from his membership as well as the Congress party.
Two Congress MLAs, Thota Trimurthulu (Ramachandrapuram) and Ponnada Satish Kumar (Mummadivaram), both from East Godavari district, also faxed their resignations to the Speaker protesting the party's decision. The 20 Point Economic Programme Chairman and PCC spokesperson, Dr N. Tulasi Reddy, also resigned in protest.
Tourism minister Vatti Vasant Kumar, who belongs to West Godavari district, meanwhile, said that he was happy for getting the Polavaram Dam earmarked as a national project. He said that the CWC resolution addressed many concerns of the Seemandhra region which they had raised.
