Quite a good number of aspirants for Congress tickets for the upcoming Assembly polls in Chhattisgarh have assigned strange reasons to justify their claim for party nominations, much to the amusement of Congress leadership here.
While some aspirants staked their claim for party ticket for being unemployed youth, some others have found themselves “most” eligible for nomination for being semi-literate farmers. Some government employees who have applied for tickets justified their claim arguing that they had maintained good public relationship during their career.
“We have so far received over 2,000 applications from ticket seekers for 90 Assembly constituencies in the state. We hope to get more applications from aspirants in the coming days,” a senior leader of the party told this newspaper on Saturday.
“However, weird reasons given by some ticket seekers while justifying their claim have truly amazed us,” he added.
Apparently trying to narrate his leadership qualities, an aspirant for reserved Assembly seat of Antagarh in Bastar district, Sahadev Usendi, described how he mobilised unemployed educated youth of the constituency to form an association to take up their case with the local administration.
“This demonstrates my organisational skills. I find myself most eligible candidate for party nomination from Antagarh Assembly constituency for the reason,” he said in his application.
Mr Usendi, a tribal, has completed his post-graduation in economics.
Another aspirant for Congress nomination from Samri Assembly constituency in Sarguja district, Babli Paira, considered her as the most deserving candidate since “I am truly inspired by Congress party’s ideology”.
Desiram Bhanker has staked claim for party ticket for Kanker Assembly seat for being a semi-literate (passed Class 7) farmer, while retired joint collector Sunderlal Srimali and retired teacher Hari Singh Uike thought that they would win polls for the party from Bhanupratappur and Antagarh Assembly seats respectively for maintaining good relationship with public during their job life.
