Many aspiring students who sought admissions in the Delhi University gathered at Jantar Mantar amidst heavy downpour to protest the denial of opportunity to them to get admission in Delhi University Colleges due to acute shortage of seats, on Saturday. The students also agitated against the varsity in failing to open a single new college in the last 15 years.
Supporting the cause, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vijay Goel said that the party is in favour of a new admission policy in which all Delhi students passing 12th boards would get 4 per cent relaxation in cut-off for the DU admissions.
Currently, about 1.3 lakh students are passing out of Delhi schools every year and there are less than 10,000 seats in the Delhi University colleges.
To change the dismal situation, the Bharatiya Janata Party had already already presented a blueprint that suggested that 4 per cent relaxation in cut-off should be given. The BJP blueprint also suggested that 15 new colleges, starting evening classes in morning colleges, opening chapters of prestigious colleges in neighbouring states and cities to reduce pressure of students from other states on the Delhi University.
