Deepika has the last laugh yet again

For quite some time now, there has been speculation about the leading lady in Imtiaz Ali’s next Ranbir Kapoor-starrer. From Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif to Alia Bhatt, a lot of names were floating around. The ladies too were hoping to hit the jackpot with a film that has been creating all the right noises. The race, however, appears to have come to an end now. We hear that Imtiaz has zeroed in on Deepika for his magnum opus. The actress, who has had a great year with a series of hits, has defeated her rivals. “Yes, she has been confirmed for the role. The formality in terms of paperwork is yet to be done but Imtiaz is very clear that he wants Deepika opposite Ranbir,” says a source close to the film. Despite Ranbir and Katrina’s romance being the talk of the town, Imtiaz opted to capitalise on the box office ratings of Deepika’s chemistry with Ranbir. “Every director has a vision. You can’t cast actors for their personal equations with each other. The investment in it is a huge risk and it has to give returns,” adds our source.
While Aalia is content to be a part of Imtiaz’s Highway, Kat still has to wait before signing a project with the much-in-demand director.
