IOA polls pushed to september end

The process to bring back the Indian Olympic Association back into the International Olympic Committee fold has been pushed to September end after the world body, in a letter to acting president and other members of the suspended body, expressed its inability to send comments on the amended IOA constitution by mid-August.

“Further to my letter of 28 June, I am pleased to confirm that the IOC will be able to send all its comments on the new IOA Constitution by mid-August 2013,” IOC director general, Christophe De Kepper said in the letter.
The IOC had initially set a July 15 deadline for the amendment of the IOA constitution so that elections could be held by September 1 to pave way for lifting of the ban on the IOA, imposed on December 4 last year. But with the new development, the whole process has been pushed by a month.
The letter pointed out that the new deadline would mean the elective general assembly, which will adopt the new constitution, will also be subsequently postponed and could now be held between September 22 and 28.
The IOC will also confirm the names of its representatives/observers for these meetings in due course of time. The world body, in an earlier letter dated June 28, had indicated aid that it needed more time to coordinate all comments internally.
