Nearly 3,900 students, who had applied for the FYJC online admission process, are yet to be allotted a seat.
While two merit lists have already been announced, anxious parents are afraid that their children may not be allotted seats in the stream and college of their choice, forcing them to compromise and take admission in lesser-known colleges. Officials have, however, assured that students who have not got an allotment yet will make it in the third list. Meanwhile, at the end of admissions in the second round on Tuesday, around one lakh students have secured seats.
According to a Chembur resident whose child has secured 63 per cent, but has failed to have an allotment in either of the two lists said that his anxiety knew no bounds. “We had mentioned the names of all colleges in the central suburbs in the application and option form. However, his name has not featured in any of the colleges. We hope his name appears in the third list or else he will be left without a college,” said the parent.
Sources in the deputy director’s office confirmed that nearly 4,000 students out of the 1.92-lakh applicants had not been allotted seats in the first two lists. “There have been some students whose names have not featured in the two lists,” confirmed N.B. Chavan, deputy director of education (schools).
He said that many students had opted for degree colleges or had applied to colleges where the cut-offs were higher than their percentages.
“The cut-offs of colleges are bound to drop and the students will have seats allotted in the third list,” said Mr Chavan.
However, on the question of why names of degree colleges were being included in the FYJC admission list, he refused to comment. According to figures provided by the deputy director’s office, at the end of the second round, 19,754 students from different boards have secured admissions. Overall 1,01,891 have secured admissions while almost 90,460 are yet to secure admissions.
