Dissent over the functioning of the Akhilesh Yadav government is no longer restricted to the Samajwadi MLAs.
Senior-most SP minister Mohammed Azam Khan and a relative of SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav are the latest to attack their own government in Uttar Pradesh.
Mr Khan, considered number two in the government, told mediapersons that the UP police has been turning a blind eye to his own complaints.
“If this can happen to a minister, I can imagine the plight of the common man. I shudder to think of the party’s fate in the next elections if this goes on,” he said.
Mr Khan said that he had been receiving calls from Sambhal on his mobilephone and the caller made derogatory remarks. “I lodged a complaint and the police arrested the culprit but let him off after taking money. I then lodged a complaint about my fake Facebook account but no action has been taken,” he said.
The minister further questioned the law and order situation of the state capital when he said that nearly 75 per cent of the stone grill installed around the Lal Bahadur Chowk near King George’s Medical University had gone missing.
“What was the police doing when the stone grills were being removed. This is one of the busiest crossings in Lucknow and has considerable traffic even at night. I sent a letter to the DGP in this regard but, as usual, no action,” he said.
