Discoms snap power to areas near river

With Yamuna crossing the danger mark in Delhi and threat of low-lying areas being flooded looming large, Reliance-owned discoms BRPL and BYPL have suspended electricity supply to the areas falling along the river bed.
“Advised by the Delhi government, BRPL has suspended power to the residents in low-lying areas along the river bed. Electricity has been suspended in areas, like Vishkarma Colony, Jaitpur, Dhobi Ghat, Near Masjid Khallilullah Batla House, till further notice,” a spokesperson of the discom said.
Yamuna has been flowing above the danger mark of 204.83 metres since Tuesday and flooded low-lying areas along the river bed.
BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) nodal officers were monitoring the situation round the clock. They are in touch with the concerned agencies including the flood control district administration office, he added.
Meanwhile, BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) has mapped all its assets, within 500 metres of Yamuna river, in its distribution area.
The river flows through eight divisions in BYPL operational areas.
As a safety measure, low-lying areas have been evacuated and BYPL has switched off 82 power connections in Badarpur Khadar area falling in the Karawal Nagar division.
In Yamuna Vihar district, 172 connections have been switched off in low-lying areas of Garhi Mandu, Usmanpur, Gurdwara Nanakpur and Bela farm areas.
The discom has also disconnected links to two rainy wells on the request from Delhi Jal Board in Laxminagar and Krishna Nagar divisions.
