Degree college teachers of the University of Mumbai (MU) affiliated colleges have alleged that the University has failed to send them an official notification on the modified syllabus of degree courses. As a result, they are at sea and have nothing to teach the students even after two weeks have passed since colleges reopened. The University has not even uploaded the modified syllabi on its website.
The problem is being faced by teachers teaching in third year courses of subjects like literature, political science, economics and other subjects from all the three faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce.
“The syllabi is modified every two years. The syllabi of subjects in the first and second year courses were modified last year according to the credit-based semester system pattern and the syllabus for third year courses was to be modified this year. The modifications in the syllabus are notified to the colleges and their teachers by the MU through a letter. The colleges re-started and classes for third year courses have already begun, but we have neither received any letter from the authorities nor has the University uploaded the syllabus on the website,” said a teacher of Marathi literature from a suburban college.
Dr Naresh Chandra, pro-vice-chancellor of MU, however, claimed that the syllabus of nearly all the subjects has been put up on the University website after modifications, and that those remaining would be uploaded soon.
