New Delhi, June 11
The East Delhi Municipal Corporation is all set to launch a major sealing drive against commercial establishments running from residential areas in its jurisdiction without paying conversion and parking charges. The drive will be launched from July 1. The conversion charges are to be paid to the civic agency between April 1 and June 30 every year.
An EDMC official said, “The last date for paying conversion and parking charges is June 30. If people don not pay these charges, sealing action will be taken against them. We will give them a 48-hour notice and then seal the property.”
According to officials, some people make a one-time payment for two-three years, a majority of them pay on an annual basis. Moreover, there has been a surge in the number of commercial units operating from residential areas and not all are paying the required charges. Officials are also undertaking a survey to identify properties which have recently started commercial activity and are not paying charges.
