After two days of heavy downpour, the city got a breather on Tuesday. By the end of the day, Colaba recorded 0.5 mm of rainfall, while Santa Cruz recorded 4.2 mm. In the 24 hours between Monday and Tuesday morning, Colaba had recorded 103.2 mm, while Santa Cruz had recorded 78.5 mm of rainfall.
On a positive note, in just 10 days of June, both stations have covered more than 14 per cent of the annual average rainfall. From June 1, Colaba has recorded 314.8 mm of rainfall, whereas Santa Cruz has received 379.4 mm of rainfall.
The Met department has said that for the next two days, the weather conditions are likely to be similar to Tuesday. “The offshore trough continues to persist from the Gujarat coast to the Kerala coast. Also, the upper air cyclonic circulation over Gujarat and the neighbouring lower level areas persists,” said the evening bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department. But the
circulation seems to be weakening, because of which the showers have decreased, said a weather official.
The soaring temperatures that the heavy rainfall had brought down promptly shot back up on Tuesday. While Colaba recorded 32.5 degree Celsius, Santa Cruz recorded 32.3 degree Celsius.
