The national sports federations and the state Olympic units on Sunday decided to amend the IOA constitution to make it compliant with the International Olympic Committee charter besides fixing a tentative date for elections in the later part of August.
The meeting, called by the suspended Indian Olympic Association led by Abhay Singh Chautala, agreed to hold a special general body meeting next month to amend the IOA constitution and also finalise the election process.
A draft constitution was distributed among the members with the proposed amendments in it and they have been asked for their views.
The members were also asked to send requisition forms to Chautala to call for a special GBM in July to amend the constitution.
After a joint meeting of the IOC and the Indian officials, including sports minister Jitendra Singh in Lausanne on May 15, the world body had issued a roadmap for India’s return to the Olympic fold.
The IOC had directed the Indian officials to amend the IOA constitution by July 15 and asked them to hold elections by September 1.

Gupta held by Janev in albena chess opener
Albena (Bulgaria), June 2: Former world junior champion Abhijeet Gupta erred in a strong position and was held to a draw by Pavel Janev of Bulgaria in the first round of the Europe Albena chess tournament.
It turned out to be a sedate start for Abhijeet whose plans of entering wild complexities against the much lower ranked Janev backfired.
The other Indians in the fray got off to a flier and topping the list was N. Raghvi, who played out a spirited game to hold higher ranked International Master Ivajlo Enchev of Bulgaria.
Ashwin Jayaram and Vishnu Prasanna had an off from work as their opponents failed to turn up for the first round. — PTI
