The seats of Delhi University’s most sought-after commerce honours course have been increased three fold in the newly introduced four-year undergraduate programme.
The increase in seats will probably neutralise the cut-off percentage.
The University has restructured and re-distributed the seats for the coming academic session. It was done following the scrapping of pass courses B.Com, B.Sc, BA and Humanities, to accommodate more seats for the honours programme.
For those students seeking to get admission in honours courses, the university has created around 14,000 additional seats for the coming academic session.
Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) principal P.C Jain said, “After scrapping the pass course, we have created more seats for honours programme, as the admission will take place based on papers selected from discipline (I). This year, around 14,000 seats have been created for Commerce (H) and around 4,000 seats for Economics (H).”
He added that the multiplication of seats for Honours courses in different colleges will reduce the chance and put off the speculation of increase in cut-offs marks for freshers.
Last year, there were around 4,000-5,000 seats for Commerce (H) students and 3,000 seats for economics students.
After the declaration of the CBSE Class 12 results on Monday, there was a speculation in the university that the cut-off might increase as there are a number of students who scored more than 95 per cent this year.
In the CBSE 12th result, there were as many as 44,676 students who have scored in the 90s and in Delhi alone, 10,129 students have scored more than 90 per cent, while 1,857 persons scored more than 95 per cent.
