The investigation into the murder of British soldier Lee Rigby by two British men of Nigerian descent, identified on social networking sites as 28-year-old Michael Adebolajo, a convert to Islam and 22-year-old Michael Adebowale, is continuing as it emerged that the three suspects have not been arrested under anti-terrorism laws.
Adebolajo and Adebo-wale, who were shot by the police after the murder, remain in hospital in a stable condition, but have not been questioned about the murder as yet. They were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of murder.
The investigation by the counter-terrorism command is continuing, however. A 29-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder on Thursday remains in custody and the three men have been arrested under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (Pace).
The Met police released on Friday morning two women, a 29-year-old who was arrested on Thursday and a 31-year old who was arrested in south London at 11.50 pm on Thursday night on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, without charge.
The police said that its officers are still involved in ongoing searches at six residential addresses — three in south London, one in east London, one in north London and one in Lincolnshire.
Meanwhile, Indian-origin Paul Ramsamy has spoken of their hunt for victims in the months leading up to Wendesday’s attack. Mr Ramsamy claims the pair confronted him after apparently mistaking him for an Armyman because he was wearing combat trousers and boots. The post-mortem examination of 25-year-old Lee Rigby was concluded on Thursday night, but the cause of death has not been confirmed. An inquest will open in due course, Scotland Yard said.
Rigby’s family paid a tearful tribute to the young soldier, who had served and returned safely from Afghanistan, only to get killed in London.
