Both Houses of Bihar Legislature were adjourned till lunch amid pandemonium by ruling NDA and Opposition members on Tuesday over the Patna High Court order for a CBI enquiry into alleged irregularities in development and welfare schemes. The Patna High Court had on July 15 ordered a CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities of Rs 11,412 crore in execution of development and welfare schemes between 2002-03 and 2007-08. While RJD was in power between 2002-05, Mr Nitish Kumar replaced the Rabri Devi ministry on November 24, 2005.
As the state Assembly sat for the day, opposition MLAs including RJD-LJP combine, Congress and Left parties stormed into the Well demanding immediate resignation of Nitish Kumar government in the light of the CBI inquiry. Meanwhile, NDA legislators countered them by demanding immediate resignation of the Congress-led UPA government for its failure to check prices of essential commodities. Speaker, Mr U.N. Choudhary, adjourned the House till 1200 hours hardly five minutes after it assembled following his repeated requests to the agitating members fell on deaf ears.
After the House reassembled, Mr Choudhary accepted a notice by Lal Babu Rai (Independent) who sought a debate on the CAG report that formed the basis for the order of inquiry by CBI and cited precedence. The Speaker, then, adjourned the House till lunch as the din continued unabated.
Both the sides orchestrated similar scenes in the state Legislative Council on the issue and Chairman, Mr T.K. Jha adjourned the House till 2.30 pm.
