The city of Heracleion, which sunk into the Mediterranean Sea more than a thousand years ago. The real-life Atlantis has now been recreated, using 3D technology, which reveals several astonishing facts, reveals The Daily Mail.

The city was home to the temple where Cleopatra was inaugurated, and was one of the leading trade centres in the region. It was discovered in 2001, and after more than a decade of excavation, extensive research has now created a map depicting how life was in those times.
Credit goes to underwater archaeologist Dr Frank Goddio who was searching the coastline for 18th-century French warships, but accidentally discovered the treasures from Heracleion instead. The remains of more than 64 ships have been spotted off the Egyptian coastline, leading to the team digging up gold coins, stone blocks, and statues among several other lost treasures. Dozens of sarcophagii believed to have contained mummified animals have also been found.The main theory for the city’s demise is that it was built on unstable sediments, and in combination with increasing sea levels, may have caused the area to drop 12 feet straight into the water. Dr Goddio told The Telegraph that their research was only in the initial stages.
