The arrest of Babloo Yadav, son of the slain village pradhan Nanhe Yadav, for the murder of deputy superintendent of police Zia-ul-Haq may end the ordeal of former minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh, aka Raja Bhaiyya, of the murder charges. The slain DSP’s widow, Parveen Azad, had accused Raja Bhaiyya of being a conspirator in the murder of her husband and it was on her FIR that Raja Bhaiyya had to resign from his post on March 4.
CBI sources, however, said while Babloo Yadav had confessed to the murder of the DSP, the motive behind the crime had not yet been established.
The slain pradhan’s family has been accusing Raja Bhaiyya of threatening and intimidating them.
It may be recalled that after Nanhe Yadav was murdered in Walipur village, his younger brother, Suresh Yadav, and other supporters set the house of one Kamta Pal on fire. Kamta Pal and Nanhe Yadav were locked in a property dispute and the village head’s family blamed Kamta Pal for the murder.
When Nanhe Yadav’s body was brought to the village, the mob turned violent and the DSP, who went to the village, was accosted by the mob that beat him up. His fellow policemen allegedly deserted him, the sources said.
Nanhe Yadav’s brother Suresh, who was armed with a rifle and was part of the mob, was killed after his gun accidentally went off. Enraged by the killing of his father Nanhe Yadav and uncle Suresh Yadav, Babloo Yadav, who had a country-made gun, came out of his house and shot Zia-ul-Haq dead while he was being beaten up by a mob.
Meanwhile, talking to this correspondent on Saturday, Raja Bhaiyya said he was happy that the person “guilty” of the DSP‘s murder had been tracked down and arrested. “I am glad that my ordeal is finally over because the media painted me as an accused without even allowing investigations to begin,” he said.
