Say goodbye to winter blues and get ready for a colourful ride this spring. The big ticket to fashion hall of seasonal fame has been won by iridescent fabrics (it shows luminous colours that change when seen from different angles).

Endorsed by Christian Dior, Mary Katrantzou, Burberry Prorsum, Diane von Furstenberg, the move indicates a step beyond last year’s penchant for metallic. Even neon shades will be big for evening wear.
On the hand, Marc Jacobs is happy exploring the unforgettable 1960s with semi-fit short dresses in floral appliques or monochromes. Very Jackie Kennedy, we say.
Designer Kiran Uttam Ghosh has chosen an amalgamation of western and ethnics to define her S/S evening line. A vivid palette of spice colours mixed with sheer and opaque fabrics present layering ideas that go beyond the ‘tunics with trousers’ theory.
“The collection interprets masculine pieces with underlying femininity, occasionally toying with the boundaries of androgyny and fosters the concept of transition, transformation and evolution,” reveals Kiran.
Ace couture designer Gavin Miguel is turning spring evenings into soft pastel hues. “Waking up to a new season with a pristine white, lime green, light pinks and a little teaser of neon sounds like a lucrative idea. The construction is flowy, ombre shaped, while the fabrics are lightweight chiffon and organza. Amidst the maze of fabric, where all that sheer is accompanied with lining, that extends even to the sleeves, the idea to allow a peek-a-boo of the legs through a slit does make the job of looking seductive quite appealing.”
While the parties continue in full swing, dressing up for the occasion should be your priority. “Gowns are for evenings and now is the time to flaunt a feminine one,” declares designer Shradha Murarka of Vizyon label.
“Keep it simple yet glamorous, go for soft prints and colours with subtle embellishments. A semi-fit cut is more preferable than going for a body-hugging version. The sleeves are following the old pattern and one-shoulder to sleeveless all are in great demand. A limited presence of peplum is acceptable while layers of tulle can create a good effect,” mentions Shradha.
