Beach lovers, get ready for a first-of-its-kind sport and music festival. The Barefoot Festival, which started today and is on till February 10 at Calangute beach in Goa, is a rare combination of sports and music, where sport lovers will get to play beach soccer during the day and cool it with music during the evenings.
“This is the first time we are getting something of this sort to India though sports and music coming together has a long history,” says Udit Seth, managing director, SE TransStadia, organisers of the event. “You have IPL, soccer tournaments, any other sport tournaments and Sunburn for music. But the combination of the two is interesting and generating good amount of interest,” he says.
The mega carnival will see 64 teams competing during the day, followed by music festival on February 8 and 9. “Beach football is the baby of Brazil, but we are trying to popularise the concept in India. While mix of professional and semi-professional teams are going to sweat it out here, the music will surely ensure better footfall,” adds Udit, who is expecting an attendance of around 10,000 people during the 5-day fest.
Performances by India’s top music artists together with some of the top DJs from across the globe and cheerleaders will ensure great entertainment. Speaking about performing at Barefoot, DJ Arjun Vagale says, “The festival will be a landmark event this year where some of the most enthusiastic and energetic forms of human recreation will come together and create an enthralling journey.” International DJ Sasha says, “I have heard great things about the warm people, beautiful beaches and vibrant nightlife of Goa and can’t wait to get there for Barefoot! The world’s finest artists love going to India because audiences adore the music.”
