In yet another gangrape incident marked by brutality of the accused, a teenaged girl was thrown off a SUV in Ghatampur area in Kanpur district on Thursday after being allegedly raped by five men. Eyewitnesses who have refused to testify before the police but claimed before mediapersons that they had seen the girl being thrown out from a Bolero.
“The driver then drove ahead, reversed the vehicle and crushed the girl’s head under the wheels before speeding away,” said one of the eyewitnesses. Some passersby informed the police when they saw the body. SP (rural) Kanpur Manoj Sonkar said that the rape angle was being ruled out at present since the clothes on the girl’s body were intact.
The girl’s identity has not been ascertained since the head has been completely crushed.
“However, we have sent the body for autopsy and have asked the doctors to ascertain whether she was raped before her death,” the police official said.
According to the police, five disposable glasses and an empty liquor bottle has been found from near the site where the body was found which suggests that at least five persons were involved in the crime.
“We are trying to locate if the girl’s body matches that of any missing girl complaint lodged with the police but so far we have not been successful,” the police official said on phone on Friday.
He said that it was evident that the accused wanted to ensure her death and deliberately crushed her head under the wheels to avoid her identification. “It is also possible that the victim may belong to some other district. We are working on all possible theories,” he said.
