The year has begun on a high note for designer couple Pankaj and Nidhi as they happen to be one of the six finalists for the International Woolmark Prize awards and are set to compete at the London Fashion Week in February.
The designer couple is high on excitement. “We have made six garments using Merino wool woven with our kitsch style and embellishments. In Europe, where black is big, we are going to create a colour riot with fuschia, green, grey, electric blue, red and rusty orange,” says Pankaj.
They are counting the days to the big moment. “To be in the same room as legends of fashion including Victoria Beckham and international media is in itself a winning experience. It is equivalent to being at Oscars for me,” say Pankaj.
Talking about being working partners, the couple says their strength lies in combined work. “It is a pleasure working with your spouse who shares your vision and aspiration. We come from the same background as we both worked under Rohit Bal and value Indian craft. Pankaj is good at technique and artwork, while I take care of styling and artwork,” says Nidhi. “The only negative of working together is that we tend to bring work home. After spending our day at office, we still discuss work at the dinner table. It’s hard to switch off,” adds Pankaj.
