Shinde claim was not a blank shot

New Delhi: It’s not without reason that home minister Sushilkumar Shinde raised the “saffron terror” issue at the Congress’ recent Chintan Shivir in Jaipur.
Government sources said in the run-up to the conclave, the intelligence agencies had in a report warned the home ministry there was a “real threat from right-wing extremist organisations.”
This was based on information gleaned from various sources, including interrogation of suspects arrested by the National Investigation Agency in major blast cases like the Samjhauta Express, Malegaon and at the Macca Masjid in Hyderabad.
The intelligence agencies said modules of right-wing extremist outfits continue to operate and are being trained to make improvised explosive devices and in the use of firearms.
“These modules are offshoots of some right-wing outfits that continue to operate openly,” the report says. “If someone thinks the threat from right-wing or saffron terror is over, they are mistaken,” a senior official said.
A multi-agency probe has shown a clear link between the blasts at Malegaon, Macca Masjid and Samjhauta. But what is worrying is that some key conspirators are still on the run. Security agencies suspect these people are trying to reactivate their modules.
