Local challengers Ashutosh Tiwari and Satykin Kohli set the pace with contrasting wins on the opening day of the main draw of the All India Tennis Association Under-14 and Under-12 talent series tennis championship in Lucknow.

Top seed Tiwari beat Uttar Pradesh’s Nishant Singh 4-0, 4-1 in his first round match in the Under-12 category, before scripting an easy win in the Under-14 category too, outplaying statemate Mridul Kumar 9-4.
Kohli was at his best in disposing off Delhi’s Prateek Saraswat 9-0 in the Under-14 section. In another match, fourth seeded Mohit Seherawat of Delhi beat UP’s Praveen Kushwaha 9-3.
In the Under-12 category, UP’s Shashikant Thakur beat statemate Anshuman Singh 4-2, 2-4, 7-4, while second seeded Wangal Lama of West Bengal overcame a stiff challenge from Bihar’s Utkarsh Singh before prevailing 4-0, 2-4, 9-7.
