Model-turned-actress and one of the most famous cancer survivors Lisa Ray clearly can’t contain her excitement when she talks about her limited edition collection of saris for Satya Paul.
Braving the Delhi cold to showcase 10 saris she has designed for SP, Lisa says the association started when she donned a Satya Paul sari for her wedding. “It had a huge impact on me. The essence of that sari stayed with me as it embodied my emotions in fabric and form,” says Lisa about the off-white georgette sari she wore on her wedding.
Lisa has designed five embellished and five printed saris for the brand. “The idea was to share my emotions through these pieces.”
“These saris are themed around my emotions and my journey from darkness to light. I experienced it all in my life in the past couple of years,” says Lisa, a survivor of cancer.
Says Lisa, “I don’t want to forget what all I went through. It made me strong to do my best in spreading awareness about cancer and help the victims in every possible way. A part of the proceeds from the sale of saris will go to India Innovation Research Centre, a non-profit cancer research body.”
Life is certainly turning beautiful for the actress who found her biggest support in husband Jason Dehni, a banking executive. “I have been lucky to get such a supportive husband. I have already made two trips to India since I got married and now this collection. My husband totally supports me to take up interesting things. Now I feel all my fears have dissolved and I am enjoying every moment in life,” she says.
Juggling her personal life, an upcoming Canadian movie Patch Town and the autobiography she is penning, Lisa says she may turn a producer soon. “There is so much to do. I am pushing the boundaries as much as possible and ensuring I enjoy every bit of life. I will start filming for my movie in January and also make room to complete the book I am working on. I was approached with Bollywood offers but I am waiting for the right project to come my way. And I just wish Bollywood had evolved the way it has now when I was here finding my hood. As of now, I am open to take up any interesting offer that comes my way but my family is my priority now,” sums up Lisa.
