Cavalli bowled over by ‘divine’ beauties

Flamboyance and charm are his weapons of choice. In his trademark black blazer, suave glares and riding high on a limousine that has his name imprinted, fashion icon Roberto Cavalli launched his first store and the Cavalli Caffe in the city.

“It is a huge honour for me to be able to launch a store in the country that I truly love. The culture, beauty and colours of the place really excite me. Indian women are beautiful, elegant, sensual and they look divine. I love their taste for fashion,” says Roberto Cavalli, president, Roberto Cavalli group at the DLF Emporio mall. The designer has collaborated with Infinite Luxury Brands, that has Indian designer Manav Gangwani on board.
Known for his animal patterns, feline spots, flower motifs and jungle themes, Cavalli has always been inspired by nature. Talking about his style, he adds, “I always like to put across powerful themes in my dresses and animal prints serve the purpose. I don’t come from any special fashion school. I just love to create new stuff. Also, I love women and you will find my design to be quintessentially feminine.”
Indian fashion has managed to strike a chord globally and has been appreciated and adapted by the international fashionistas. As we ask him about his take on Indian fashion, Cavalli responds, “I love fashion sense of women here, who can mix and match bright colours. It is close to my optimistic vision of fashion and glamour. The sari is a beautiful piece of garment, with great embellishments and detaling.”
On being asked if there’s any Indian celebrity he would love to dress up, he says, “I am terrible with names. I find all Indian women pretty, especially their eyes. However, I think I really found Freida Pinto very beautiful and would love to dress her up.”
The Cavalli Caffe is a new entry in the city’s gastronomic circuit. “I have always been a connoisseur of good food. Enjoying coffee and food in pleasant ambience and company is what I seek to provide at my caffe,” smiles Cavalli.
Finally, he talks about his love for the city. “This is my second visit to the city and I have seen it evolve. The progressive mindset, intelligence and confidence of the residents is amazing. It is such a happy feeling to be in such a place,” he concludes.
