A week after the Board of Control for Cricket in India said it was mulling whether to take Lalit Modi to court or not, it’s the suspended IPL chairman who has instead fired the first salvo.
The embattled administrator, through his constituted attorney Mehmood Abdi, moved the Bombay high court on Thursday challenging the BCCI’s decision to suspend him and initiate disciplinary proceedings for alleged irregularities regarding the conduct of the Twenty20 league.
In his petition, Mr Modi claimed that the board did not possess a single shred of evidence against him, and as such the suspension order slapped on him following the third season of Indian Premier League on April 25 should be withdrawn immediately.
Mr Modi, incidentally, has also asked the high court to restrain the board from taking any further steps on its three showcause notices as well as proceeding further with the hearing of the three-member disciplinary committee. He, however, added that if an “independent” and “mutually acceptable” panel was set up to hear him out, he would be willing to face it.
