One of Bangladesh’s most wanted criminals, Subrata Bayen, who was on the run after escaping from a Nepal jail recently, was arrested by a Kolkata police special task force in Kolkata on Tuesday. He will be produced in court on Wednesday.
Apart from several murder cases, Bayen was allegedly involved in the grenade attack on an Awami League rally in Dhaka in 2004 in which 24 people were killed and several others injured, including Sheikh Hasina who is now Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
Police commissioner Ranjit Kumar Pachnanda said at Lalbazar: “The STF caught him from Bowbazar at around 11.30 am.” Fake currencies worth `11 lakhs, a loaded country-made revolver and some Nepali currency were recovered from him, he added.
